An Impassioned Regard

p25 Not one can show a faith that will appear to the body's eyes. Not one can show meaning as she would a glove. But dignity can be seen in the eyes by the eyes. One look of dignity can flatten a soldier's will to kill. Dignity is an impassioned regard for life. Those who oppress cannot be made to shine with dignity. Nor can those who repress the dignity that abides within them. To die a meaningless death is to live a meaningless life.
